  • Name: April 2, 1896, Pyrmont, Sydney, New South Wales
  • Playing Role: Umpire
  • Relation: \nOf the24 Test matches in which he umpired in Australia, Eric George Borwick stood in 22 consecutively, from 1931-32 until 1947-48, and it is to be regretted that, unlike his colleague in the Bodyline series, George Hele, he did not pen his reminiscences. For George Borwick, who died early in August in Sydney at the age of 85, was, unobtrusively, in the thick of the colourful Ashes contests of 1932-33, 1936-37 and 1946-47, giving the controversial not-out decision at Brisbane in the last series when England thought they had Don Bradman caught at slip. The Don went on to make a further 159 runs. It also fell to Borwick to give Bill Brown run out by bowler Mankad while backing up. Small of stature and genial of nature, he was much respected by the players, and was one of the more distinguished guests at the Melbourne Centenary Test of 1977.', ' \n
